With Maryna Bozhenko

Maryna Bozhenko is Ukrainian and works as an Account Manager in Tech

I moved here in 2021 with one backpack and a plan to stay for three weeks, which turned into three amazing years. Each year I have discovered Lisbon from a new perspective and meet people from various backgrounds who shape this town. And I eventually became one of them.

There are a lot of festivals, parties and conferences happening every other month in Beato.

Keep an eye on the posters around town so you don’t miss the next one, as tickets to those usually sell out pretty quickly.

My favourite coffee spot here is Royal Rawness, on the first floor of the Factory, a modern office building in the old cookie factory.

There, you may find yourself having a business meeting among a variety of art objects, surrounded by graffiti and paintings. It’s an unusual location, which inspires artists and photographers who often come here. At the end of the day, I recommend checking out the rooftop.

For lunch, I love going to a local bakery called Lully or stopping by O Grilo Beato or Clube de Video

These restaurants are very popular among those who live and work in the area. I think it’s because the food is made with love. One more must-visit restaurant in the area is Duro de Matar. It serves its visitors not only tasty Mexican food, but solid DJ sets and vibes.

Beato is a magnet for innovators, where old factories are being transformed into a Global Tech Hub, attracting local and international talent.

There’s a certain magic in utilising the same spaces for work where your grandparents could have worked in the past. Even today, one may find old machinery in the buildings of Beato, where the past meets the future, creating a unique mix of history and global innovation.

Beato is somewhat remote from the main streets of Lisbon and has not yet been discovered by tourists.

Nevertheless, for those who will eventually get there, it offers the charm of old factories and fascination with its modern architectural projects. The dazzling water view on a commercial port at the sunrise and sunset sets this location apart from any other in town.
